Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic

Event Date: 01/01/2016 to 05/01/2016
Event Time: Daily

Launched in 1989, the Bay Cycling Classic has become recognised as the world's fastest criterium series.

Taking the sport of cycling to the people, the Bay Cycling Classic is conducted in prominent locations around road circuits along the bay, ensuring high-paced and explosive action. A series of 4-criteriums is conducted over 4 days, providing free entertainment for the crowds.

Event 1: Geelong - Ritchie Blvd - January 1
This ultra tight hot-dog circuit is the most compact of the series and is raced alongside a natural amphitheatre that provides the perfect viewing opportunity for the fans. Although pancake flat many riders classify this as the hardest race in the series because of the frantic pace that is generated.

Event 2: Geelong - Eastern Gardens - January 2
With views across the Corio Bay this circuit is quite spectacular. The climb back into the park at the far end of the circuit can have a major effect on the outcome depending on the wind direction.

Event 3: Portarlington - January 3
The toughest circuit in the series, this race suits the hard nuts of cycling. The views across the bay as far as Melbourne are quite stunning.

Event 4: Williamstown - January 4
Williamstown has become the traditional finale to the Bay Classic and this beautiful seaside suburb provides a magnificent backdrop for a classic criterium circuit.

The event attracts a star-studded local and international field for the main racing in the elite men and women categories. It also provides a great platform for domestic riders to compete across multiple age groups.
